What are mind and body classes like?

Mind body classes offer a whole new way to workout that integrates strength, core work, flexibility and mental discipline into your fitness routine. Mind & Body classes are recommended to those with injuries by many Health Professionals.  As part of your weekly fitness routine a regular Mind & Body class can reduce you risk of injuries, improve balance, reduced stress levels and improve ability to visualise and focus on everyday tasks.

Mind and Body classes:

Developed more than 70 years ago By Joseph Pilates. Pilates is a non-impact class that emphasises breathing and spinal and pelvic alignment while addressing the muscular imbalances and postural problems that result from daily life. Pilates increases flexibility, joint mobility and coordination while challenging core muscles (back & abdominal). Increasing core strength and stability has been shown to improve performance in other sports (running, boxing, skating, etc.) and enhance life by making daily activities easier.

Yoga is a form of exericise that uses slow movements and stretching. It is good for increasing flexibility and balance. It is also good for relieving stress and relaxing. Yoga has been used as a meditation technique for thousands of years.  As you exercise, you meditate on what your body is feeling and try to be "one with the universe”

Tai chi, also called tai chi chuan, combines deep breathing and relaxation with slow and gentle movements. Originally developed as a martial art in 13th-century China, tai chi is today practiced around the world as a health-promoting exercise.

Studies have shown that tai chi can help people aged 65 and over to reduce stress, improve balance and general mobility, and increase muscle strength in the legs.

Learn ancient Chinese exercises & techniques to help combat the stress of modern day living! Everday our vital energy is being used up, most especially so when we are under stress or recovering from illness or injury.
Qigong (pronounced Chee-gung) exercises provide a way to cultivate & restore our vital energy.

The sessions will incorporate simple, gentle, teacher led Qigong movements & relaxation techniques, which when practiced over time lead to increased energy levels & add to students sense of general wellbeing.

BODYBALANCE is the Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates workout that builds flexibility and strength and leaves you feeling centered and calm. Controlled breathing, concentration and a carefully structured series of stretches, moves and poses to music create a holistic workout that brings the body into a state of harmony and balance.
