Getting active together delivers results Cupar

The area’s leading provider of sports and leisure services is reporting the positive effects for customers who are getting active following the restrictions of lockdown.

Charitable trust, Fife Sports and Leisure Trust has welcomed feedback from an active group in Cupar who are enjoying instructor-led aqua sessions.

The sessions are delivered thanks to the motivation of a previous class participant who loved them so much, wanted to make sure they continued to be delivered at Cupar Leisure Centre.

Susan Moubray, aqua instructor for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “I had been a regular at aqua and pilates classes at Cupar since retiring seven years ago – I loved the classes and the social contact and was frustrated when aqua classes stopped because of a lack of instructors.

“My pilates tutor suggested I train for aqua and I decided to go ahead.  I studied, practised, qualified, then unfortunately, lockdown came along.  However, following the easing of restriction in September, I have been leading classes and have been quite overwhelmed by the positive response.  Everyone has been so enthusiastic and supportive.  We have great fun – we are all getting fitter, and it has been a lovely way to pay back Cupar Leisure Centre and the local community for all they have done for me over the years."

Regular aqua class participant, Ruthild Brown, also known as Roots, from Cupar, said: “I have attended classes at Cupar Leisure Centre for many years and particularly enjoy the aqua sessions.   I love being in the water and it's a very forgiving environment – there is no impact on my joints, so I allow myself a greater range of movement and I'm pain free.  I also enjoy the social side of the class, I have made many lifelong friends whom I missed very much over lockdown.”

Evelyn Crichton health and fitness coordinator for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “There is lots of evidence of the benefits of getting active on our physical health, but we also know that there is a real effect on our mental health – reducing anxiety and boosting our mood.  We are so pleased that Susan loved participating in aqua sessions so much she qualified to deliver them – it’s a fantastic boost to the range of group fitness sessions available to the community of Cupar.”
