Local club and leisure centre team up for active youngsters

A local triathlon club is giving young people in the area a fantastic opportunity to benefit from coached swim, cycle and running sessions thanks to a new programme at East Sands Leisure Centre.

East Fife Triathlon Club will be able to boost the training opportunities of participants with a new weekly dedicated pool session along with use of our facility’s general purpose room for indoor training.

Allan Reid, area leisure manager for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “The trust is committed to getting more people active more of the time, and is particularly keen to engage with young people with an aim to encouraging a lifelong interest in being active.

“The new dedicated pool time allows young people, who may not have been able to access formal swimming lessons previously, the chance to learn an important lifesaving skill as part of their triathlon training.

“East Fife Triathlon Club offers a great opportunity for kids who love being active and want to benefit from expert coaching in a local setting.”

Elise Methven, Regional Development Officer for Triathlon Scotland, said: “We are delighted to be working with Fife Sport and Leisure Trust to bring more accessible, affordable triathlon opportunities to children across Fife.  Triathlon has experienced a huge demand from youth and adult participants, partly as a direct result of the popularity of the Brownlee brothers and the Commonwealth and Olympic Games Legacy. We hope that by continuing to work with the trust across the region we are able to meet that demand and create additional opportunities for people to get involved.”
