Win a year's worth of swimming lessons in recognition of Drowning Prevention Week

Fife Sport and Leisure Trust is supporting Drowning Prevention Week to help children and parents stay safe and enjoy the water this summer. The annual campaign, created by the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK), will be run in partnership with the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) and will see a whole host of water safety activities, events and lessons taking place throughout the UK from 17th to 24th June 2023.

Fife Sport and Leisure Trust is proud to play its part in this Water Safety campaign. As part of our commitment to raising awareness and fostering a culture of safety in and around water, the Trust is delighted to announce an engaging competition for children to design water safety posters. The winning entry will be rewarded with a year's worth of free-swimming lessons, while the two runners-up will receive six months of complimentary lessons. Entries must be submitted by Sunday, 25th June and the winner will be informed on Tuesday, 27th June 2023.

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust is one of 36 trusts delivering National Framework for swimming in Scotland, in partnership with Scottish Swimming and Scottish Water. In addition to the competition, our swimming instructors will be delivering lessons specially adapted to include key water safety guidance including the Water Safety Code and basic skills such as floating which are needed to survive in cold water.

Lee Cunningham, Activities Manager at Fife Sport and Leisure Trust, said: “Swimming is not only a fantastic sport, but also an important life skill. Whether your idea of fun in the sun involves swimming at the pool, beach visits or boating adventures, prioritising water safety can help families to prevent accidents and be aware of potential dangers.

“Our competition is a fun way to highlight the importance of water safety and give children a better understanding of how to be safe in and around water.

“The one year of free-swimming lessons equates to 49 sessions annually and we’d love for youngsters in the area to get involved by dropping by the centre and designing their own water safety poster. We look forward to presenting our creative winners with this fantastic prize!”
